The Lack of

"To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness." - Bertrand Russel

Happiness. Webster's Dictionary describes happiness as "the quality or state of being happy; good fortune; pleasure; contentment; joy." So to be without some of the things you want is essential to being happy? Sounds kind of crazy right? When I first think of happiness I think of things that make me smile or make me feel content. Happiness are the things in life that you do not have to worry about. Happiness is when you realize how special those little things truly are.

What if everything in life went our way. What if there were no disappointments or consequences. Would happiness exist? Absolutely not. That's just what this quote is trying to say. It is saying without failure there is no gain. Without the horrible days there is no bright tomorrow or a greener side. You can not experience happiness with out having to deal with something worse off.

This allows me to truly be grateful for what I have. It almost makes the flaws in life beautiful. The flaws in life are what makes us different from one another and what motivates us to be the people we are today. At least this is true for me.
